Tell me about 1Africa Consulting.
It is a strategic brand communications agency committed to delivering integrated, purpose-driven solutions that create meaningful value, foster positive impact, and drive sustainable growth.
Who would be your typical client?
We have a diverse client base that spans various sectors. We serve small, medium and large enterprises alike, providing each client with the same level of professionalism, commitment and excellence.
What do you think makes you good at your job?
First, I am focused and well organised, which enables me to manage complex tasks and navigate challenges with clarity and efficiency. This also allows me to remain calm and solution-orientated, even in high-pressure situations.
I am naturally reserved by nature, but I enjoy engaging with people and building meaningful professional relationships.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I aspired to become a medical doctor as I believed it was a noble and admirable profession, but I later discovered that I struggled with subjects like maths, which are essential for pursuing a career in medicine.
What do you look for when recruiting for 1Africa Consulting?
I look for a well-rounded combination of relevant skills, industry experience and a genuine passion for the communications and consulting sector. Given that we operate within a client-focused environment, technical competence and a strong understanding of client service excellence are also critical.
Beyond qualifications and experience, I place a strong emphasis on attitude and personal drive. I believe that potential is just as important as proficiency. I am particularly passionate about creating opportunities for young men and women who demonstrate a willingness to learn, an ability to adapt, and the hunger to grow within the industry.
What advice do you have for young people at the start of their careers?
Embrace every opportunity with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Understand that setbacks and failures are a natural part of growth — they are not the end, but rather valuable lessons that can guide you towards future success. It is perfectly acceptable to stumble, reassess and start again; resilience is a key ingredient in building a meaningful career.
Surround yourself with individuals who inspire you, challenge you and support your development. Mentorship, collaboration and a strong network can significantly influence your trajectory. Never underestimate the importance of learning from those with more experience, as well as from your peers.
Above all, maintain a positive and proactive attitude. Your mindset plays a crucial role in shaping your path. Stay curious, remain humble, and strive for excellence in all you do.
