Andile Dyalvane is one of SA's most celebrated ceramic artists, having presented his artwork in exhibitions and galleries across the globe.

His latest exhibition, on at Southern Guild in Cape Town until February 29, showcases a collection of studio ceramics created during a recent residency at British pottery studio Leach Pottery.

Due to his talent and unique style, Dyalvane was offered one of four residencies at the studio, an initiative aimed at exchanging ideas between artists from different countries.

We asked him what's on his cultural radar.

MUSIC

Audio travels right now are Nduduzo Makhathini's album Ikhambi, as well as my regular playlist featuring Madosini, Cinematic Orchestra, Christian Scott, Burnt Earth Ensemble, Mulatu Astatke, St Germain, Mogli's Expedition Happiness and more.

BOOKS

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is an interesting and relevant labyrinth of ideas. Others on my radar are Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously by Osho, and Anna Borges's The More or Less Definitive Guide to Self-Care.

One of my all-time favourites is Malidoma Patrice Some's Of Water and the Spirit.

RESTAURANTS

Sepial's Kitchen in the Salt Orchid District of Salt River lifts my senses with fresh Korean cuisine every time - guaranteed.

THEATRE

Minack Theatre in Cornwall was an epic theatre experience for me during my residency at Leach Pottery.

APP

I've always been fascinated with drones and being able to access a bird's-eye view. I was recently introduced to the world of the DJI Osmo Pocket Gimbal with 4K camera, a gadget that comes with an app for function and operating mode.
