It's been an unpredictable year for filmmakers and film fans alike, making it harder to bet on who'll take home Oscars at the 2021 Academy Awards on April 25 (02h00 on April 26 SA time).

These are my best attempts:

BEST DIRECTOR:

Nominees: Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round); David Fincher (Mank); Lee Isaac Chung (Minari); Chloé Zhao (Nomadland); Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman).

Who should win: David Fincher.

Who could win: Lee Isaac Chung.

Who will win: Chloé Zhao.

BEST PICTURE:

Nominees: The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Nomadland,Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Who should win: The Father.

Who could win: Judas and the Black Messiah.
