Good-looking folks are richer and have more friends, but aren't big on sharing

A study in Germany made some interesting 'discoveries' about people gifted in the appearances department

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but goddamn, it helps if the beholder finds you beautiful. There's now incontrovertible proof that those considered to be beautiful have more goods and benefits coming their way than just an objective breeding advantage. They are also much more likely to be promoted, and to earn more than their less attractive counterparts. In addition, they're also apparently happier and make more friends. Go figure!

But beauty it seems also affects your political leanings and the beautiful tend to skew to the right. A new study in Germany that corrected for all sorts of biases that could be found in this sort of semi-objective assessment of good looks and riches found that the beautiful are most likely to be the friends of economically liberal policies that question the need to redistribute wealth in a more equal way. This is something to think about when all those beauty queens stand up on stages around the world and declare themselves benevolent bringers of peace, goodwill and charity among mankind.

Not so fast my lovelies. It transpires that the beautiful people aren't keen on the inherent pleasures of redistribution. Give and ye shall receive is not on the cards for this lot. And, unsurprisingly, this holds true across the gender spectrum. Why you might ask? It seems that as certain people can't imagine why their privilege might be real and could have benefited them even unwittingly, so the beautiful also believe that their genetic privilege was earned and therefore they deserve their outsized share of the spoils.

Perhaps if they have paid top dollar to acquire the attributes of beauty at a plastic surgery this could be true. Be that as it may, sharing is not caring when you think that everybody should work their assets in the manner that the beautiful have done over time and space.

It’s a genetic lottery out there but this lot is holding on to whatever advantage they've scored.
