The reinvention of Madge, formerly known as Madonna

Celebrate the queen of pop’s upcoming tour — in full frontal throttle

Is there any more fascinating place on the interweb than that peculiar intersection where  extreme plastic surgery and the overuse of filters (so many) meet in the person of the artist formerly identifiable as Madonna? I love it there. She is a small meta universe unto herself, a performance art work, a four-part invention, an icon in the original sense of the word — something mysterious and marbelised, purpose built to be worshipped.

She is magical in her fierce commitment to the ongoing repackaging of the contents that loosely represent her personhood. And now, this testament to the force of imagination and willpower — to take a rather easy listening voice, throw in some shock, horror and nudity and then package it so strategically as to create an international singing, dancing, morphing sensation that has a career Methuselah would envy — is going on tour. Yup, its called The Celebration, as in she’s celebrating 40 years of hits and I, for one, would give a good portion of my monthly earnings to see her in full frontal, turbo loaded action.

Also I liked the truth-or-dare big reveal video with a ridiculous cast of Madge acolytes such as Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Diplo, Bob the Drag Queen, Eric André and Amy Schumer among others playing the game with the queen of pop as they recreate some of her most seminal moments, such as the group sex shot and the tongue kissing of one’s friends in a public forum. Amy then dares her to do the above-mentioned world tour — and, guess what? She said “yes”.
