The Baxter Theatre’s next Morning Melodies performance features a performance by Ivor Joffe and Friends. The series of morning concerts takes place each month, with a diverse range of music offerings to suit every taste, and has been put together with senior citizens in mind. WHEN: August 17 to 20, different performance times

After a number of years of not staging any productions in Joburg, Nataniël is back with his award-winning show Prima Donna. With stories in English and Afrikaans, and songs in English, the performer is ready to put up a show complete with an elaborate wardrobe and his unique way of looking at society through themes of family, sadness, history and failure — but also hope.

Comedian Alfred Adriaan is touring the country, bringing his witty sense of humour and relatable jokes about everyday life and middle age to South Africans. His tour started earlier this month in Durban, with his next show happening in Johannesburg on August 19, before moving to Kimberley, Centurion, Cape Town and Potchefstroom between August and October, in the lead-up to a show in New York in November. WHAT: Penryn Festival

WHERE: Penryn College, Mbombela

WHEN: August 19, 10am to 10pm

After its first event last year, Penryn College is back with what it hopes will become an annual event: the Penryn Festival. Festival-goers will find plenty to entertain, with a market; children and teen zones; food vendors; tea and beer gardens wine and gin tastings; and live music from Mathew Gold, Voodoo Kudu, Slick Velvet and Big C, and DJ Zinhle as the headline act. Limited parking will be available at Penryn for R50, but a park-and-ride service will operate from Mbombela and White River.

WHAT: Mystery Ghost Tour Johannesburg (East Route)

WHERE: Starts at Sunnyside Park Hotel, Johannesburg

WHEN: August 19, 7pm to 11pm

If you love a good ghost story and have not yet joined a Mystery Ghost Tour, this is your chance to do so in Joburg. Previously known as the Mystery Ghost Bus, these tours now operate on a self-drive basis as part of a convoy, with a host to guide you at each stop. Take a partner or group of friends, but make sure there’s someone to drive and someone to read stories along the way, with stops at spooky places like the Troyeville Hotel, the Poltergeist House on Roberts Avenue, Kensington Castle and Sir George Farrar’s grave. WHAT: West Coast Spring Flower Hike

WHERE: Postberg, West Coast National Park

WHEN: August 20, 8.45am to 4.15pm

After a dreaded winter, it’s time for the beauty of the West Coast National Park to unfurl as daisies, orchids, irises, vygies and viooltjies start to bloom. To mark the opening of Postberg during August and September, when the wildflowers transform the landscape, Table Mountain Treks and Tours will host a moderate guided hike along the Steenbok Trail, which is popular for its views of spring flowers. Shake off the winter blues and enjoy the new season's blooms.

Tickets cost R360 through Quicket and include the trail permit and SANParks gate fee (remember your SA ID).

WHAT: FNB Inaugural Pop Opera Concert

WHERE: People’s Park Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban

WHEN: August 20, noon

In line with its commitment to support the creative economy, FNB presents the inaugural Pop Opera Concert this month, a unique coming together of orchestral and pop music. With performances from the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the likes of Grammy-winners Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode, Good Luck, Shekinah, DJ Le Soul and DJ Tira, there will be something for everyone looking to celebrate the best of local music, while enjoying a fun day out with food and drinks.
