On an unusually frigid night in Los Angeles the stars of the world came together to celebrate the best in entertainment at the Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Leonardo di Caprio, Bradley Cooper, Taylor Swift, Billy Eilish, Selena Gomez and Timothee Chalamet were some of the names who rubbed shoulders in the ballroom where the 81st Golden Globe Awards were held.

Oppenheimer and Succession swept the night, pulling in wins in the major categories for film and television including Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Male Actor Motion Picture Drama for Cillian Murphy, Best Male Supporting Actor Motion Picture for Robert Downey Jnr, Best Director for Christopher Nolan and Best Score, all for Oppenheimer. Succession pulled in Best Drama, Best Female Lead TV Drama for Sarah Snook, Best Male Actor TV Drama for Kieran Culkin, Best Male Actor Supporting TV for Matthew Macfadyen . Barbie, which had the most nominations going into the awards, took home Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Song. (See the list of winners.)

The awards themselves are only part of what makes the Globes the best party in town. The magic of the ballroom is indescribable. Where else can you chat with a friend and be interrupted with the words “Hey you!” and look up to see Taylor Swift giving a shoutout while walking by, long and lithe in a metallic sparkling green Gucci sheath with three delicate horizontal straps across an endless back. I followed as she skipped down the stairs to “The Pitt”. This is where the top people at the top of their game sit. There was a time when Jack Nicholson was a staple. You’re probably wondering: “Jack who?” He was one of the greatest actors, but of another generation. If you're in “The Pitt” you’re in the platinum seats, and you’re almost too hot to touch. But that can change in a blink in the fickle world of Hollywood, where the focus is always on the new and the next.
I turned around and was literally face to face with Timothee Chalamet kissing his girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

When he saw me (shocked, thinking I’d witnessed a discrete moment and knowing me as a reporter), he laughed, eyes dancing, happy, uncaring. The two cuddled throughout the ceremony. Bennifer — that’s Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck — were caught looking lovingly into each other’s eyes instead of at the stage. Besties Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez chatted animatedly like two schoolgirls on a field trip, naturally close and delighted to be together. Selena wore Armani. It was great to see women supporting women and looking fine while doing so.
Joaquin Phoenix hung out overlooking “The Pitt” and chatting to passers-by. He introduced me to the director of the film Beau is Afraid, which got him a nomination in the Best Actor category.
The Crown was well represented and Elizabeth Debicki looked regal in her gold strapless sheath, her blonde hair parted down the middle, the blonde and gold going bleached against her marble skin. Lily Gladstone, in an elegant long white dress with a black cape, won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for Killers of the Flower Moon.

Ryan Gosling looked dapper in a black suit with white piping from Gucci. Barry Keoghan, nominated for Saltburn, stunned in a red Louis Vuitton and South Africa’s Trevor Noah, who was nominated for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, was seen in the most popular look of the night for men — black on black.
