MASTERS OF THE AIR
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks reteam as producers of this third instalment in their dramatic investigation into the lives and bravery of American WW2 soldiers. Following on from Band of Brothers and The Pacific, this time we’re in the company of the dashing, daredevil pilots of the US Air Force involved in the Allied bombing campaign in Europe. Starring Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keogh and Anthony Boyle, it’s a compelling and satisfyingly dramatic tribute to the sacrifices and courage shown by ordinary young men thrown into the tumult and frustratingly absurd chaos of war.

GRISELDA
Sophia Vergara dons a prosthetic nose and gives a steely-eyed murderous glare as Griselda Blanco, the legendary and much feared Cocaine Godmother who reigned over the violent drug world of Miami in the 1970s and 80s.
Somewhat loose with the facts in service of drama but solidly thrilling and blood-soaked, it’s a not quite Shakespearean tale of power and hubris that’s elevated thanks to the dedication of its star.

THE LONG SHADOW
A dark refocusing of the story of the years of terror that Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe’s terrible murders wrought on the psyches of not just Northern England but British society at large. Casting its eye on the victims of Sutcliffe’s killings and the stubborn misogyny of the police charged with catching him, which lead to false leads and delays and enabled him to continue for longer, the show is more social history than whodunnit and benefits as a result.
