Reigning Miss World Krystyna Pyszková from the Czech Republic will be one of the judges at the Miss World South Africa pageant taking place at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West next month.

Ten finalists from across the country will competing for the title, the winner of which will represent the country at the Miss World pageant to be held early next year. The date is yet to be announced.

Pyszková said of her adjudication duties at the pageant, “I am so happy to be returning to South Africa and to be a guest of Miss World South Africa. It’s an honour to celebrate ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ with my sisters in Africa.”

She said she had fallen in love with the beauty of South Africa and the spirit of its people.

“During our visit in May, we spent time at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital understanding the needs of the children in care. They were truly inspirational,” Pyszková said.

“I look forward to meeting the children and seeing you all in October, as I play my part as a member of the judging panel that selects the next Miss World South Africa.”

Carol Bouwer, national director of Miss World South Africa, said the involvement of judges such as Pyszková would help their organisation to crown a winner with “global appeal”.

“We include international judges because we want a winner who is fully South African and has global appeal. Ultimately, we want to win Miss World,” Bouwer said.

She said they were also “thrilled to return to North West province, where many international title holders have been crowned”.

“The ability to work within the province to advance arts and culture, and to support women-led enterprises, is what resonates most with my office, but also with our reigning queen, Dr Claude Mashego, who has conducted herself with absolute class,” Bouwer said.

She said the Sun City Superbowl remained closely associated with pageantry, while “Sun International is synonymous with excellence”.

“We are delighted to host everyone on October 5, and to welcome the world to South Africa,” Bouwer said.

Miss World owner Julia Morley, speaking from London, said: “I always hoped we would return one day to our friends at Sun City. The resort holds a very special place in my heart, as we have held the Miss World finals at its spectacular Superbowl on five occasions.”

All finalists in the Miss World pageant have adopted a “Beauty with a Purpose” campaign.

The 10 SA finalists’ campaigns range from activities to help curb teenage pregnancies, promote universal access to health care, curb food insecurity, assist less fortunate children, and use sports development as a tool to help transform society.

Tickets for the event are expected to be available from Quicket from Monday.
