A Bronx Tale — Prime Video
Robert De Niro’s directorial debut from 1993 still stands up. De Niro plays a hardworking 1960s Bronx father whose relationship with his teenage son (Lilo Brancato) is pushed to its limits after the boy falls under the sway of a local crime boss (Chazz Palminteri). Written by Palminteri and directed by De Niro with sensitivity and quiet skill, it’s a small but memorable crime drama that benefits from a strong sense of place and time.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays against type to strong effect in this odd but moving drama about mortality and letting go, directed by Croatian first-time director Daina Oniunas-Pusić. Louis-Dreyfus plays Zora, a struggling mother who is caring for her sick daughter (Lola Petticrew). When a strange talking bird claiming to be Death arrives in their lives one day, mother and daughter must overcome their initial fear to confront the hard truth of what their otherworldly messenger is telling them — before it’s too late.
