Pieter Toerien along with Cape Town Opera presents the world’s most-loved musical — Lerner and Loewe’s musical theatre masterpiece My Fair Lady. Based on Gabriel Pascal’s 1938 film adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, premiered on Broadway in 1956. Boasting a score containing such timeless songs as I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, Wouldn’t It Be Loverly, I’m Just An Ordinary Man, On the Street Where You Live, Show Me, The Rain in Spain, and I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face, this grand local production is set to enthral audiences of all ages. The Dancing White Stallions are on the move again this festive season and travelling to Fairview Racecourse. Watch them perform jaw-dropping movements used in ancient battles and dance to tunes that will get your toes tapping in an interactive educational and musical experience for both the young and the young at heart. WHAT: Cape Town City Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Cape Town City Ballet (CTCB), South Africa’s most established ballet company, will proudly present The Nutcracker at Artscape from December 13. Choreographed and directed by Veronica Paeper and set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious score, this eagerly awaited holiday season production will bring CTCB’s 90th anniversary year to a sparkling close. The charming tale revolves around young Clara and the nutcracker doll she receives as a gift from her mysterious godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer. As the family’s Christmas party ends and the clock strikes midnight, the magic begins as she is whisked away by a handsome prince on a wondrous adventure.

Featuring a giant Christmas tree, toy soldiers, mischievous mice, dancing snowflakes and waltzing flowers, this enchanting story culminates in the Land of Sweets, where Clara meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and her new friends from around the world. In various lead roles will be Kirstél Paterson, Leusson Muniz, Leanè Theunissen and Hannah Ward, with Paige McElligott and Jordan Roelfze making their debuts as Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince. Guest artists for this season are Ruan Galdino from WGRUV as one of the princes and Marcel Meyer as Herr Drosselmeyer. As always, talented dancers from as young as six years old will join the production from dance schools and academies in and around Cape Town. They will be performing as party children, angels, snowdrops, mice and soldiers, and it goes without saying that this timeless classic will be a delight for audiences of all ages.
