The Wallaces, Elliot Carter and the rest of the gangs are vying for violent control of the city of London in the third season of the UK’s gruesome, high-octane, choreographed action spectacle series. Tymon Smith spoke to star Sope Dirisu and newcomers Andrew Koji and Richard Dormer about what’s in store for fans this season.

Elliot was the moral compass and audience favourite of the show. He's changed forever by his experiences in the last season. Is there a way back for him, now that he’s committed to the world of the gangs?

Sope Dirisu (Elliot Carter): It’s a cautionary tale about who your heroes are, who you follow and how far you’ll follow them. I’m curious to see whether audiences continue to side with him now that he’s introduced them to the gang world. Will audiences choose to make different decisions regarding their favourite characters? Will they understand the trauma he’s been through and the decisions he’s making now? Or are some things unforgivable? It’s an interesting stress test.

Why is the show popular with fans?

Andrew Koji (Zeek): It's the Warrior of England - a groundbreaking show for English TV — there’s not many “Raidesque” style action shows mixed with gripping family drama set in this kind of stylised London.

Richard Dormer (Cornelius Quinn): I'm impressed by the set pieces: how gloriously violent they are, and the heightened realism has an otherworldly feel, a Gotham City feel. It feels like a weird, alternative reality, another universe or dimension that’s familiar but unfamiliar.

What’s it like to see set pieces in the script come alive in the show?

SD: It’s a challenge to see, “This is what we want to convey to our audiences, how do we achieve that?” — especially in the fight sequences. Adam Horton, the stunt co-ordinator, created sequences that made me feel excited that I'd been chosen to perform them.

What do you hope audiences take away from this season?

AK: A lot of passion and work went into this production. Hongsun Kim, the director, brought a unique take to making it. He directed independent action films in Korea. This is his first job in TV and in The West. He’s done a bang-up job; he injects Asian style and blends it into this world of Gangs of London. I hope audience enjoy it.
