RMB Latitudes Art Fair returns to Johannesburg for its third edition next weekend. Brought to you by the team behind Latitudes Online, and in partnership with Rand Merchant Bank, the fair offers visitors a unique art experience that brings together the art community. Galleries and artists from across Africa showcase their art throughout Shepstone Gardens, a magnificent three-acre property, and visitors are invited to explore all corners of the indoor-outdoor venue as they wander through marble halls, secret gardens and rooftop pavilions, enjoying a diverse programme of exhibitions, talks and more. Cape Town Opera presents a bold, African-futuristic reimagining of Verdi’s Aida at Artscape from May 23-31. Directed by Magdalene Minnaar, this visually striking production features an all-South African cast, choreography by Gregory Maqoma and cutting-edge animation. Sung in Italian with subtitles in English and isiXhosa, Aida blends timeless music with innovative design. With a 52-member chorus and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kamal Khan, it promises to be a theatrical highlight of 2025. Step aboard South Africa’s state-of-the-art polar research and supply vessel — the SA Agulhas II — as she opens her decks to the public for one day only in Durban. This flagship environmental outreach event is hosted by the department of forestry, fisheries and the environment and brings together science, adventure and education for the whole family. The open day is designed to inspire curiosity, promote marine conservation and celebrate South Africa’s contributions to Antarctic and ocean research.
