Co-directed by Alex Garland and former Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza, this short, sharp and harrowing war film is based on Mendoza’s experiences while serving in Iraq. Featuring a strong cast of dedicated young talent including Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis and Joseph Quinn, it’s one of the most immediate and visceral on-screen evocations of the chaos and tension of the battlefield. Super/Man: the Christopher Reeve Story – Showmax

In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s chisel-jawed actor Christopher Reeve stamped his place on the popular cultural consciousness of a generation as the on-screen face of the Man of Steel. In a terrible dramatic irony, he then lost his ability to move after being paralysed in a horse-riding accident in 1995. Through intimate personal archive and interviews with his family, this Bafta-winning documentary tells the inspiring story of how Reeve went from fictional Superman to real life hero when, after his accident, he spent the remainder of his life before his death in 2004 advocating and fighting for the rights of disabled people.

Leanne – Netflix

Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre takes his traditional sitcom format to Netflix with this vehicle for comedian Leanne Morgan, who stars as a grandmother whose life is thrown into turmoil after her husband of 33 years (Ryan Stiles) decides to leave her. With a little help from friends, family and jello salad, the future might just be bearable.
