Mmuso Potsane and Maxwell Boko, aka designers Mmuso Maxwell, are a fashion duo on the rise with an affinity for tailoring with skilful deconstruction, cut-outs and layering.

They talk us through what inspired their latest collection and share some of their favourite things:

Our Spring/Summer 2018 collection was primarily inspired by sign language; we were intrigued by how it's still not one of the official languages or a subject in schools. Due to this, the hearing-impaired community is deprived of the opportunities offered to able-bodied people.

We wanted to shine a light on this injustice with our collection. Throughout creating this range we kept referring to certain signs within the language, which we then infused with our aesthetic to create minimalist and wearable pieces.

When we were creating this collection, we were listening to Lonely World by Moses Sumney and The King of Anxiety by Petite Noir.

Every woman should have a Mmuso Maxwell asymmetrical navy blue pencil skirt in her wardrobe.

Mmuso Maxwell's muses are Kwena Baloyi and Manthe Ribane. They have an eccentric and non-conforming style that is deeply rooted in being African.

One of our favourite designer is Josep Font for Delpozo. We love how he uses colour and structure; it's always so effortless and refreshing.

The last thing we each bought and loved was a pair of New Balance 520 trainers and a pair of Adidas Lite Racer trainers.

If money was not an issue, we would buy the MaXhosa rug. It's a work of art.

Our style staples are blue jeans, paired with a shirt or a T-shirt.

Our favourite fragrances are Antonio Banderas The Secret Temptation and Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme.
