Leading South African retailer Cape Union Mart Group has launched Green Thread Studio, a destination dedicated to progress.

It is born out of one of the group’s primary core values which speaks to sustainability — a golden thread considered in every aspect of the studio and its day-to-day running.

As more retailers and fashion businesses look to localised production, a move spurred by the previous heavy restrictions of Covid-19, this becomes the group's strategy to leading the pack with its transparent approach to clothing manufacturing.

One of the core values of Green Thread Studio is “feeding passions, feeding lives”, as seen with the 220 manufacturers and 33 designers they have employed.

In addition to bridges between buyers and designers, the manufacturing division of the studio includes a training facility that upskills new talent.

The retail group is dedicated to developing and evolving its fabrics and prints with a focus on increasing the number of sustainable ones used. The fabric offcuts are upcycled to minimise the amount of waste that occurs through sampling.

The Green Thread Studio will be the core hub of the design and production for Poetry, Old Khaki and KEEDO.
