As Angelo Agrizzi started testifying about Bosasa at the state capture commission on Wednesday, Gavin Watson's Twitter feed lit up.
No surprise there, perhaps - but the 45-year-old software developer in the UK didn't have a clue why he was being tagged in tweets accusing him of corruption and bribery.
On Friday he tweeted from his @gavinwatson account: "So apparently someone who has the same name as me has done something bad and now I'm getting trolled! How cool is that?!"
Speaking to the Sunday Times via Twitter, he said: "I recall being at home minding my own business and noticed a few notifications. Someone had tagged me with something along the lines of, 'You're a bad person and we're gonna come and get you.'"
Some quick online research gave Watson "good insight into politics in SA and who the other Gavin Watson is".
When people realised they were targeting an innocent man, the tone changed, and Watson joined in the fun by posting pictures of piles of cash.
"It's been nothing but amusing to me, I'm just having fun with the fact that people haven't been bothered to see that I'm not who they are looking for," the British Watson said.
