The 26 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists who were arrested in Harare two weeks ago were granted bail on Friday.
The 26, among them two MPs — Costa Machingauta and Amos Chibaya — were arrested after holding a party meeting at Machingauta's home in Harare's suburb of Budiriro.
Police raided the house, accused the group of conducting an illegal public meeting and charged them with gathering with intent to promote public violence.
On Friday, Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda granted the activists bail of $30,000 Zimbabwe dollars each.
“We are absolutely happy with the outcome and are relieved to see that justice has taken its course, and all the accused are convinced of their innocence,” the activists' lawyer, Chris Mike, said outside court.
“It is our hope that the next stages of the case will be just and fair and yield the results that are deserving of the suffering the accused have endured.”
However, CCC vice-chair Job Sikhala remains in remand prison seven months after his arrest. He has been denied bail 15 times. His lawyers said on Friday that he was not feeling well.
