THROWING AWAY HIS WICKET

AB de Villiers is a phenomenal batsman. Captain of SA at the 2015 Cricket World Cup, his batting powered the Proteas to the semifinals.

This week, as the Proteas faced an early exit from the World Cup in England, having lost their three opening matches, it emerged that De Villiers had made himself available for selection just 24 hours before the team was announced.

Cricket SA had "pleaded" with him not to retire in November last year but he was adamant he was done with the national team. We have no doubt De Villiers would have given the Proteas a boost in England, but that it took this mampara seven months to finally decide that the nation needed him is a clear case of self-interest before country.

No third umpire required. You are out of the team, out of the World Cup and out of order.
