An odious comparison

The long arm of the law has finally caught up with the once untouchable former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.

He will serve jail time for a crime committed 22 years ago when he and his goons kidnapped and assaulted his ex-partner and her husband.

Mdluli is not going down quietly, though. According to him, the charges he faced were fabricated, just as were the charges against Nelson Mandela, who was imprisoned for 27 years for treason.

“If a person like Mandela was taken to prison for the offences he did not commit, the same is applying to me now,” Mdluli said. Well, at least he didn’t claim to have fought against white domination.

But since he’s petitioning the Supreme Court of Appeal, maybe those wise judges will make it a short walk to a life behind bars.
