Dunstan Mlambo and acting chief justice Raymond Zondo were casualties of Dali Mpofu and Julius Malema's "hatchet job" as the two chief justice candidates were grilled by them at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interviews held this week.
Gauteng judge president Mlambo has denied allegations of sexual harassment against him, saying there was no substance to the “insidious, poisonous” rumour. Mlambo made the statement during his interview with the JSC on Thursday for the position of chief justice.
Commissioner Dali Mpofu SC raised the sexual harassment rumour during the interview, saying there had been allegations in which Mlambo was implicated, “rightly or wrongly”.
Acting chief justice Raymond Zondo was the fourth and final candidate to be interviewed for the chief justice position and also found himself on Malema and Mpofu's chopping boards.
Allegations of bias towards president Cyril Ramaphosa levelled against Zondo seemed to be of much interest for commissioner Julius Malema who repeatedly tried to establish a reason for Zondo having not released the part of the inquiry report on Ramaphosa and why he owed the president the courtesy of keeping him up to date with the findings of the commission.
