Mampara of the Week: Pule Mabe

If the ANC had a dollar for every sarky comment from its spokesperson, it would be rolling in money

IT'S NOT ANC POLICY. YET

The ANC’s spin doctor often suffers an attack of foot-in-mouth syndrome, resorting to crude, if not bizarre, responses when the heat gets too much.

He also has a tendency to scold journalists who ask awkward questions.

Thus it was that this mampara displayed his callousness when asked this week about the plight of scores of ANC workers who have not received salaries for months on end.

In an interview with the SABC that turned into a screaming match, Mabe stunned viewers by explaining that  the ANC could not meet payroll because it was not in the armed robbery business.

“The ANC is not a bank robber, the ANC relies on donations. If the ANC was running a cash-in-transit heist, or something like that, then it would say, ‘We know the robberies  we’re going to be conducting in the next two months will give us enough.’”

We know the governing party is short of cash, but maybe it needs to invest in PR lessons for its spokesperson.
