Mampara of the week: Gayton McKenzie

Homesick for jail?

We have become accustomed to Gayton McKenzie’s anti-foreigner rants since he formed his grandiosely-named Patriotic Alliance. But this week he outdid himself in his mamparadom, threatening to switch off oxygen for a migrant patient.

If given a choice, he raved, he would rather let a migrant die than a South African. He said this was his obligation as a public official. The people of Beaufort West, where he is mayor, must be alarmed about being led by someone with such murderous inclinations.

Your job as a public representative, McMampara, is not to murder people as you claim, whether they are South Africans or migrants. Otherwise you just might find yourself back in prison.
