This week, impeached public protector-in-waiting Busisiwe Mkhwebane doubled down on what the Pretoria high court called her “complete lack of basic knowledge of the law and its application”.
Determined to prove the court right, she announced her intention to rock up at work, insisting that her suspension lapsed when the inquiry into her fitness to hold office ended. Not so, said her acting successor, Kholeka Gcaleka; asked about this by radio host Clement Manyathela, Mkhwebane said of Gcaleka: “Who is she? What is she?”
If she was in her former deputy’s position she would “just shoosh”, Mkhwebane said. Fortunately the National Assembly will vote tomorrow on whether to oust this bumbling public protector — and hopefully she will “just shoosh”.
