How to chase away voters a few months before elections? Ask John Steenhuisen. The leader of the DA seems to have perfected the art.
While on the campaign trail to rubbish the ANC in Gauteng for creating “a jobs-for-cadres scam” with the employment of crime prevention wardens — he then went overboard. Labelling the wardens “drunkards” who were pulled out of shebeens and handed “ill-fitting Pep Stores uniforms” is low even by his standards.
Like a true Mampara, Steenhuisen sees nothing wrong with his statement as he told reporters this week he stood by every word he uttered. “I don’t think there’s any reason to apologise,” said this Mampara.
Is it too late to ship him off to Harvard? Wait ... that might prove impossible unless someone organises some “recognition of prior learning” arrangement.
