Mampara of the week: Chippa Mpengesi

Treason deserves more than a red card

Chippa Mpengesi is an Eastern Cape businessman known to run his football club — Chippa United — from the boot of his car. The Chilli Boys chair has earned a dubious reputation as a trigger-happy guy who fires coaches at the drop of a hat, depending on his mood on the day.

Quite an unstable fella, our Chippa. That's why few in the football world were surprised when this Mampara nailed his colours to the mast of the Super Eagles ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations semifinal against our very own Bafana Bafana.

Why? Because his star shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali is Nigeria's goalie. This from a man whose team’s financial heartbeat pumps courtesy of South African taxpayers who cough up their hard-earned cash for the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro that sponsors Chippa.

If you are looking for a bumbling muppet who bites the hand that feeds him, look no further than this unpatriotic and ungrateful Mamparangesi!
