This week’s Mampara was once highly regarded as an anti-corruption crusader who resigned from the ANC in protest against its failure to deal with leaders accused of corruption.
She had a short stint in the African Democratic Change, but was booted out by a rival faction. She then briefly joined Outa (Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse), before moving to ActionSA, where she locked horns with Herman Mashaba after allegedly developing ambitions to succeed him. She is now deputy to Philani Mavundla, president of the Abantu Batho Congress, while we all place wagers on what her next political home will be.
Khoza and Mavundla want KwaZulu-Natal to cede from Mandela’s republic. She put up a spirited defence of the proposal during a debate in Durban this week, claiming that Zulus were being sidelined. “Culturally, you know that we used to have King Shaka Day. We no longer celebrate that, it’s now called Heritage Day ... and we used to have Dingaan’s Day on December 16 ... now it’s Reconciliation Day.”
So this Mampara reckons celebrating the victory of the Voortrekkers would bring dignity to the Zulus?
