In a parliament many of whose members have taken their seats under criminal, legal or ethical clouds, there is no shortage of mamparas, from a “formerly” open racist in DA MP Renaldo Gouws, to characters allegedly implicated in state capture such as the ANC’s Zizi Kodwa, it was hard to choose a mampara of the week.
Fortunately, EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini rose above the mob to claim the prize.
Given an 18-month suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer during one of the EFF’s disruptions of parliament in 2019, an unbowed Dlamini proclaimed: “What I did that day, I can do it again.” Of that there can presumably be no doubt, but is this mampara really fit to help instil law and order among ordinary South Africans?
