Mampara of the week: Douglas Maimane

From worse to merely bad

Madibeng mayor Douglas Maimane is a Mampara of a special type.

Remember when he was in the news for allegedly hiring his daughter and the mother of his baby — creating positions that never existed just for them? Who can forget the time when a municipal bakkie got into an accident while driven by someone not employed by the municipality after having conducted work on Maimane’s private farm.

This week he entered Mamparadom when his municipality circulated a poster congratulating this Mampara for ... wait for it ... achieving a qualified audit opinion.

Maimane’s municipality has been receiving an adverse opinion audit for years — so he and his people felt that a qualified audit was some kind of achievement.

“Congratulations are in order!” read the poster circulated on social media. For these antics, we hereby declare Maimane a qualified Mampara.
