One doesn't lightly take a decision to declare the country’s finance minister to be a mampara, but Enoch Godongwana has brought the infamy upon himself.
In trying to match expenditure and revenue Godongwana may well have been justified in proposing his two-percentage-point VAT hike.
Nonetheless, for going to parliament with a proposal that he must have known would be rejected, even by his own party, Godongwana strayed onto the mampara podium.
His open-mic gripe against Sars boss Edward Kieswetter secured his dubious place atop the podium as mampara of the week.
So, at the risk of rubbing up the wrong way one of our most important public figures, Godongwana gets the honour, capping a week he’d rather forget.
