Seemingly without regard for his own tenure as an elected representative in a democratic parliament, ANC MP Albert Seabi has quite unselfishly suggested that our democracy could do with some dictatorship to liven things up.
From deep in the backbenches of the National Assembly, Seabi, who is also chair of the portfolio committee on human settlements, decried the liberties taken by land invaders.
The invaders, he said, raise human rights as a defence when they are removed. “Like I say, my personal view is that our democracy, which is so good, needs a bit of dictatorship,” he added, leaving us to wonder just how much despotism this Mampara thinks is necessary.
