President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the country on Saturday on the issue of Eskom's load-shedding.
This was his first public engagement since cutting short his international trip to respond to the crisis.
Ramaphosa said: “The challenge is being addressed. It’s a complex one and we will be speaking soon about various measures that we are taking to make sure that we address this challenge.”
He said the country has faced a myriad of challenges and is going through what he calls "the throes of an energy crisis".
"A crisis that has been with us for many years and a crisis that we continue to make all efforts to address," he said.
The president's comments come as SA battled high levels of load-shedding, which has left many households and businesses in the dark.
Several well-placed insiders told the Sunday Times of engagements between the presidency and the public enterprises department about electing a new Eskom board.
The talks are expected to be finalised in the coming week.
In the coming week, Eskom will implement stage 3 load-shedding for most of next week due to capacity constraints.
The embattled power utility apologised for what it calls "unfortunate load-shedding", saying it is implemented only as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns.
