Steenhuisen's 'moonshot pact' crumbles

DA leader John Steenhuisen's proposed “moonshot pact” coalition partnership to unseat the ANC in the 2024 elections is in trouble.

DA leader John Steenhuisen's proposed “moonshot pact” coalition partnership to unseat the ANC in the 2024 elections is in trouble.

During his speech at the party's federal congress last weekend, Steenhuisen announced the DA would form a pre-election “moonshot pact” with like-minded political parties and civil society organisations to prepare the ground for a possible national opposition coalition government.

This week TimesLIVE reported that UDM leader Bantu Holomisa said the DA should not use other parties as pawns, cherry-picking those with which it wished to form an alliance while rejecting others.

Steenhuisen had indicated that the coalition would be without the EFF.
