South Africa has been urged to no longer sit on the fence in the Russia/ Ukraine war, as it grapples with a diplomatic dilemma sparked by recent allegations of arms sales to Russia.
US ambassador Reuben Brigety this week claimed a Russian cargo ship which docked at Simon's Town naval base late last year left South Africa loaded with weapons.
The accusation strained relations between South Africa and the US and put lucrative trade and diplomatic ties at risk.
The allegations have drawn attention to the increasingly complex and blurred nature of South Africa's international relations policy.
The situation has prompted officials from both South Africa and the US to engage in urgent efforts to fix the diplomatic rift.
