EFF president Julius Malema wants to enlist the help of “masterminds” Brian Molefe and Matshela Koko, the authors of the textbook on how to destroy Eskom, to nurse the state power utility back to health.
Malema said at a media briefing on Thursday that, if his party took power, it would end load-shedding in six months.
His comments come a week after Eskom implemented stage 6 load-shedding owing to multiple generating units having to be taken out of service. This was gradually reduced throughout the week as some units came back online.
The power utility said unplanned outages had been reduced to 13,733MW, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance stood at 8,121MW.
Eskom’s power station general managers and their teams were continuing to work hard to ensure additional generating capacity was recovered by bringing units back to service, the power utility said.
Eskom said there would be no load-shedding between 5am and 4pm this weekend, and a mix of stages 1 and 2 between 4pm and 5am.
