Lady Justice may well be “blind”, but she’s certainly coming for “cornered” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Monday, International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan said he had requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu, his defence chief Yoav Gallant, and three Hamas leaders, including its chief, Yahya Sinwar.
If such warrants are issued, however, members of the court, which includes nearly all the countries in the EU, could be put in a diplomatically difficult position.
Israel was on Friday also ordered to halt its military offensive in Rafah, which is feared will inflict worsening conditions of life on Palestinians in Gaza.
This is one of the provisional measures indicated by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday in the application brought by South Africa on May 10.
South Africa sought a modification of provisional measures previously prescribed by the ICJ on January 26 and March 28 in the case concerning alleged violations by Israel of its obligations under the Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians in Gaza.
