President Cyril Ramaphosa has “applied his mind” and “made a change that changes nothing” with his latest cabinet reshuffle.

Ramaphosa earlier this week removed embattled Thembi Simelane from the all-important justice ministry on Tuesday evening.

Mmamoloko Kubayi will now be the minister of justice, while Simelane will take over the human settlements ministry.

Simelane has been the subject of a litany of corruption allegations stemming from her time as mayor of Polokwane. She stands accused of wrongdoing after she admitted to obtaining a loan of more than R500,000 from a businessman who facilitated the Polokwane municipality’s investment in the now-collapsed VBS Mutual Bank.

The president’s decision was criticised by some political parties, who labelled it “short-sighted and disrespectful” to South Africa.

Other appointments include Ramaphosa making Phumzile Mgcina the deputy minister of mineral & petroleum resources. Mgcina had been serving in the national executive as the deputy minister of labour & employment.

Ramaphosa has also appointed deputy minister of mineral & petroleum resources Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala the deputy minister of employment & labour.
