Liverpool opened up a nine-point lead in the Premier League title race as Mohamed Salah continued his sensational season with both goals in a 2-0 win at Bournemouth yesterday.
Arne Slot’s side rode their luck at times against a side unbeaten in 11 league games but Salah once again proved the difference as he took his league tally to 21 this season.
Salah rifled home a penalty after half an hour and then curled home an exquisite second in the 75th minute. Bournemouth, who remain seventh, hit the woodwork twice — through Antoine Semenyo when it was 0-0 and then Marcus Tavernier shortly before Salah wrapped up the points.
Fulham substitute Rodrigo Muniz struck in the 82nd minute to give his side a 2-1 away win over Newcastle United, with the visitors coming back from a goal down to grab the victory following a superb second-half effort.
The victory sees Fulham move up to ninth in the table on 36 points, five behind Newcastle, who remain fifth despite a disappointing result and a disjointed performance at home that saw them hit the woodwork twice.
Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the fastest goal of the season in a 4-0 win over Leicester City as the Merseyside club continued their resurgence under David Moyes with their third straight victory in the Premier League.
Doucoure latched on to a long ball from keeper Jordan Pickford to score in 10.18 seconds — the fastest goal Everton have ever scored in the Premier League and the fourth-fastest in league history.
Beto then grabbed a double when he scored his first five minutes later and once again just before halftime as Everton punished Leicester’s high line to go 3-0 up by the break.
Everton added a fourth in the 90th minute when Iliman Ndiaye pinched the ball after a mix-up in defence as Moyes’ side moved up to 15th with 26 points.
Fired-up Nottingham Forest thumped Brighton & Hove Albion 7-0, helped by a hat trick from striker Chris Wood in their Premier League clash at the City Ground earlier yesterday in an emphatic bounce back from last week’s humbling 5-0 loss at Bournemouth.
Forest move to 47 points after 24 games to consolidate third spot as they chase Champions League qualification, while Brighton are ninth on 34. Forest are now level with second-placed Arsenal, who host Manchester City in fourth today.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest side romped to their biggest margin of victory since a 7-0 rout of Chelsea in 1991.
