Wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane and her Japanese partner Yui Kamiji fought back from a set down to claim the French Open women’s doubles crown at Roland Garros on Friday night.
Down 4-6 against the Chinese pairing of Xiaohui Li and Ziying Wang, they clinched the second set 7-5 before taking the deciding tie-break 10-7 to secure the fourth Grand Slam triumph of their career.
Montjane and Yui won the French Open and the US Open in 2023, as well as Wimbledon last year.
In 2024 they made the final at the Australian Open, but lost the final in straight sets to Dutch defending champions Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen.
In the men’s quad doubles final, also played on Friday, Donald Ramphadi and Turkish partner Ahmet Kaplan lost to Guy Sasson of Israel and Niels Vink of the Netherlands 3-6 4-6.
